Candidly, we are one of the best massage schools around - not only in San Francisco, but in the state of California.  Since 1969 we've been exploring the world of massage and bodywork training while constantly updating and improving our educational techniques and certification program curriculums to meet the demands of the ever changing field of bodywork and massage therapy.

Our massage instructors come from diverse backgrounds and educational experiences.  We draw upon their wisdom and collective massage experience to shape the school's unique certificate programs and our continuing education workshops and massage classes.  Our directors and even our administrative staff are all dedicated massage professionals.

  • Approved by the Board of Registered Nurses for 51.5 C.E.U. / credits contact hours.

  • Active member of CAMBS (California Alliance of Massage & Bodywork Schools Association).

The State of California requires a minimum of 100 hours of recognized training for massage therapy certification. At SFSM, we offer certification programs and workshops totaling well over 700 credit hours, which will qualify you to work professionally in most municipalities in California as well as most other states.

The San Francisco Department of Public Health ordinance went into effect on July 1st, 2004. The most recent developments regarding massage can be read at the SF Department of Public Health website.

SWEDISH MASSAGE INTENSIVE
July 17 - July 31, 2009
Weekdays and weekends, 9:00am - 6:00pm daily.
Beginner Class - 102 Certification Hours
Our popular Swedish Massage intensives provide students with the essentials elements for beginning a career in massage therapy. This two week course instructs students in hands-on techniques, body mechanics, anatomy, ethics, marketing, and general business skills for the massage practitioner. Students leave the program capable of performing a 1 hour Swedish massage for clients and ready to take the San Francisco massage permit exam.

Tuition: $1400.00 - Tuition due prior to the beginning of program.

REFLEXOLOGY Instructor: Vicky Kennedy, CMT

Saturday – Sunday July 11 & 12, 2009, from 10am - 6 pm, 14 Credit Hours: Reflexology is a truly holistic and non-invasive therapy that can be used alone or easily integrated into a full body massage. Students will learn the principles of Reflexology and the holistic concept, its ability to relieve stress and tension, improve blood supply, release toxins and promote the flow of nerve impulses. Students will leave this class with a comfortable ability with the hands on techniques and will be able to provide a complete reflexology session for their clients. Prerequisite: 70 hours of training, bring two sheets to class.

Cost: $ 230.00


DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE and MYOFASCIAL RELEASE I Instructor: Art Riggs, CMT

Saturdays – Sundays, August 15, 16, 22, & 23, 2009, from 9am - 6 pm, 32 Credit Hours: More than just “hard” massage, our Deep Tissue I workshop introduces myofascial therapy techniques to supplement basic massage skills to work effectively with localized tensions, injury and emotional holding patterns.  This class is designed to be immediately incorporated with present massage skills to allow you to work deeply, safely and with ease.  This class also includes instruction in range of motion and palpation techniques. Prerequisite: 100-hr massage certification. Bring two sheets to class.

Cost: $485.00 (includes “Deep Tissue Manual: A Visual Guide to Techniques”).


SPORTS MASSAGE Instructor: Randy Lind, CMT

Friday, Saturday & Sunday August 28, 29 & 30, from 9am - 6pm, 24 Credit Hours: In our three-day sports massage workshops, students will actively explore the concepts and techniques of sports massage through class discussion and lots hands-on work. The classes will provide tools and a framework to assist clients in preventing and minimizing the effects of injuries and overuse syndromes. This workshop will cover pre-event, post-event and training aspects of massage, and will approach common client injuries in a goal-oriented way while allowing a great deal of hands-on practice. Prerequisite: 100-Hr Massage certification. Bring two sheets to class.

Cost: $400.00
