"The advanced shiatsu class was well balanced and enjoyable." |
Through a series of workshops, the advanced Asian Bodywork program will give students an expanded technique toolbox, increased theoretical understanding, heightened evaluation skills, and the ability to develop treatment strategies. Each workshop is complete in itself, and it is not necessary to take them in sequence. Upon completion of all six workshops and additional assignments, students will receive a certificate for 100 hours as an Asian Bodywork Therapist. Grasping the Wind: Fall Shiatsu for the Metal Element, 14 hours. Metal energies create vitality in the body through intake of the pure Qi of the air, and the elimination of waste. At this time, we need to strengthen the immune system and pay attention to our need for protection from the change of season and the approach of winter. The Metal element is housed in the lungs and large intestine. Close to the Bone: Winter Shiatsu for the Water Element, 14 hours. The Water element governs our basic constitution and the storage of Qi. We sense winter in the bones, making it important to nurture the inner fire and conserve energy. The Water element dominates the back of the body, kidneys and urinary bladder. Flexible as Bamboo: Spring Shiatsu for the Wood Element, 14 hours. The Wood element gives the body and mind its ability to change, move and grow. Each spring, we can experience a sense of renewal of energy, creativity and optimism. Flexibility helps us maintain a balanced structure and pain-free movement. The Wood element controls the liver and gall bladder. Heart Home: Summer Shiatsu for the Fire Element, 14 hours. The Fire Element is the ruler of the mind, and therefore responsible for the wellbeing of the entire body. The body and mind respond strongly to the fires within. The Fire element is expressed through the diverse energies of the heart, small intestine, pericardium and triple heater. Return to Center: Late Summer Shiatsu for the Earth Element, 14 hours: Earth energies harmonize the transitional times between seasons by their ability to give stability and energy to the body and mind. Earth governs the stomach and spleen as they transform and transport the vitality of food into energy. The Earth element is at home in the center of the body – the Hara.
