SFSM now offers an intermediate massage program. Our 103 hour Massage Therapist course is dedicated to developing professional massage therapists. This course threads muscle function with palpation, visual assessment, communication skills, and marketing.  

 

 


Students will develop:

  • Kinesthetic Awareness

  • Body Reading skills

  • Expanded massage techniques

  • Self-Care techniques to avoid repetitive strain

  • Ways to maintain intention and focus throughout a full session

  • Confidence to achieve their professional goals

This program is ideal for the graduate of our basic Swedish massage program as well as the practicing therapist who is seeking deeper understanding of the body and their role as a health care provide. We are certain that each student will leave with the confidence and knowledge that will lead them to a successful practice in massage therapy.

Class Overview:

Kinesthetic Awareness:
Students will examine the relationship between muscle function in regards to daily tasks and common complaints from clients. Palpating familiar muscles determines their direction and action. With practice, you will be able to identify variations of muscle patterns.

Massage Technique:
Working within the familiar format of Swedish massage, students will utilize new knowledge of posture and muscle function to inform their massage work, applying strokes and new techniques with a specifically therapeutic intent and approach.

Deepening Mindfulness:
Throughout the course various awareness and  meditative practices will be introduced and woven throughout the course in classroom and at home practices that will enhance, support, and expand students’ abilities to practice being present with clients and themselves.

Clinical and Professional Skills:
Students will explore the possibilities of several professional situations as well as marketing and practice building techniques, cultivating essential skills from networking with other health professionals to basic record keeping, including exposure to  working in a clinical setting through a visit to a chiropractic office.

PREREQUISITE: Completion of a 100+ hour Swedish massage certificate program.
