"In shiatsu, giver and receiver create a warm and understanding human relationship through touch and body pressure and become sensitive to each other." – Shizuto Masunaga, founder of Zen Shiatsu. A typical shiatsu session is both relaxing and energizing as the therapist employs pressure while moving about the body in a rhythmic, flowing sequence. All major muscle groups are stretched and all joints in the body are mobilized, restoring energetic harmony and a sense of bodily awareness. Students in the Zen Shiatsu Massage Practitioner program will learn:
This is a rigorous 115 hour program of study lasting approximately 12 to 14 weeks. Students work together throughout the program, developing camaraderie and competence as they practice on one another in and outside of class. Classes consists of lecture and demonstration, followed by guided practices. The basic Shiatsu Therapist training is offered three times a year, and is taught by Rachel Johnson ABT. Summer classes will be offered Monday and Thursday afternoons from 1:30pm to 5:00pm beginning June 5. This popular course fills quickly so register early to insure a place in the program.
