We are one of the most respected massage therapy schools in the San Francisco bay area.  We've trained thousands of excellent and competent massage practitioners in our forty years as a California Massage Therapy School.

Candidly, we are one of the best massage schools around - not only in San Francisco, but in the state of California.  Since 1969 we've been exploring the world of massage and bodywork training while constantly updating and improving our educational techniques and certification program curriculums to meet the demands of the ever changing field of bodywork and massage therapy.

Our massage instructors come from diverse backgrounds and educational experiences.  We draw upon their wisdom and collective massage experience to shape the school's unique certificate programs and our continuing education workshops and massage classes.  Our directors and even our administrative staff are all dedicated massage professionals.

All of these factors combine to provide unparalleled college quality and a commitment to creating the best massage therapists in California and the world.

The State of California requires a minimum of 100 hours of recognized training for massage therapy certification. At SFSM, we offer certification programs and workshops totaling well over 700 credit hours, which will qualify you to work professionally in most municipalities in California as well as most other states.

San Francisco's Massage Law.

California Massage Certification.
The state of California now offers an optional, voluntary state certification for massage that allows practitioners to work beyond the city to city limitations associated with municipal permits. For more information on state certification, please see CAMTC.ORG

The classes will provide tools and a framework to assist clients in preventing and minimizing the effects of injuries and overuse syndromes. Prerequisite: 100-Hr Massage certification. Bring two sheets to class.

Trigger points are area of extreme tenderness within muscles that are often involved in chronic pain and dysfunction. Students will learn to assess, identify and assist the client in releasing long-held patterns and areas of stubborn potential in the body.  Increase you effectiveness by working smarter, not by working harder. Prerequisite: 100 hour massage certification. Bring two sheets to class.

DYNAMIC STRETCHING AND MOBILIZATION • Instructor: Dr. Eric Rubin, DC, CMT

Saturday – Sunday April 3 & 4, 2010, from 10am - 6 pm, 14 Credit Hours: Our bodies were designed to move. Modern life, however, is increasingly sedentary, limiting our natural types and ranges of motion and creating restriction in our bodies. Traditionally, massage is performed on a passive, static body rather than actively involving the client on the table. This two day intensive workshop is designed to give the therapist practical tools for actively engaging their clients in the process of opening their bodies from within. Topics will include visual assessment, contract/relax, PNF, reciprocal inhibition and practice integrating these dynamic approaches into the Swedish massage format. Prerequisite: 70 hours of training, bring two sheets to class, wear appropriate underclothes for visual assessment.

Cost: $ 230.00
